About Defectbird
Defectbird is built and run by Ellul Solutions Ltd, a software company registered in England and Wales. It is a small product with one job, not a platform: the inspection a shop runs on a vehicle, and the record of it. The free worksheets and the paid plan are made by the same people, and the worksheets are not a trial of the paid plan.
Why this site exists
Because the inspection is the part of the visit that decides the rest of it, and it is usually the part kept worst. The sheet gets walked, the customer says yes to the brakes and no to the belt, the paper goes in a folder, and six months later nobody can say what was found. A shop that cannot read what it declined last time is selling the same advisory twice or not at all. Defectbird exists so the inspection is a record with a date, a technician and a photo on it, and so a shop can see what inspecting costs it and what it gets back before it decides how long a technician should spend.
Who it is for
It is for the person in the United States who inspects a vehicle against a checklist and hands someone the defect list that comes out of it: the independent repair shop or tyre and service centre running digital vehicle inspections, the mobile mechanic and the RV or motorhome inspector working out of a van, the foreman running a multi-point before a job is quoted, and the small operator inspecting the vehicles their own business runs. It is not for the home inspector, the property manager, the compliance officer or the DOT safety manager; other software is written for them.
What it does not do
- It publishes no state inspection law and no rule text. Whether a vehicle passes a state safety or emissions inspection is decided by the state and the licensed station, not by a worksheet.
- It gives no repair procedure and no diagnosis. Nothing here tells a technician how to fix what the inspection found, and nothing here diagnoses a car we have not seen.
- It sells no vehicle history, registry or VIN data, and it ranks no vendor. There is no listing here anyone paid to appear in.
- It never puts the free worksheet's answer behind a login, and it never emails a customer of yours without their own consent.

What Defectbird Pro keeps
Upgrading turns the worksheet into the record. The checklist becomes an inspection filed against a vehicle, with its photos, its findings and what the customer authorised, and the vehicle keeps every inspection it has ever had, so the advisory declined in March is on the screen in September when the same car comes back.
